THE Corsham Bookshop is one of 68 book stores chosen to receive a share of £120,000 worth of grants from bestselling author James Patterson.

The store in the High Street has been owned by book proprietor Janet Brakspear since 2008 after she took over it from a friend. The donation will be used to fund initiatives to get more children reading.

Mr Patterson from America pledged to donate money to bookstores in the UK and Ireland last year and has already given £130,000 to 73 other independent bookshops.

He is best-known for the Alex Cross crime thriller series he wrote and has also announced he will be awarding a further £250,000 to book stores.
