DRIVER Katie Campbell was left fuming after a First bus hit her parked car and drove off without stopping, leaving her to fork out hundreds of pounds for repairs.

Miss Campbell, 32, of Bences Lane, Corsham, said there have been multiple incidents since November last year where buses have hit cars along Coulston Road, with her neighbour's car being hit so badly that it had to be written off.

“My first car got hit in October last year and I have only just received the money from them to pay for the repair work.

“It got hit again a few months later and luckily there was a witness who was on the bus when it happened.”

The sports physiotherapist added that by having a witness she was able to contact First, which runs the 231 service to Chippenham, to claim the money back – something which she believes has taken far too long.

She said: “I want to let the bus company know that this is not acceptable. I run my own business so I rely on my car to get me from client to client and having to get the car repaired sets me back.

“I am a professional person and I can’t turn up with the bumper hanging off. I’ve managed to wash some of the paint off but there are still a couple of marks on the metal. I couldn’t see or understand how the bus driver could do that much damage and drive off.

“I pay £200 a month for the car which is brand new and to pay an extra bill on top for repairs is lot of money.

“This is a really busy area and there are children walking around so it is really dangerous if buses are driving past clipping cars.”

Miss Campbell said after contacting First multiple times in the last month, she has received confirmation to say it accepts responsibility and she is now working with it to arrange a suitable date for repairs to the Kia Rio.

A First West spokesman said: “We are very sorry to hear that our bus was involved in an incident in Corsham. We train all our drivers to the highest of standards and we are very sorry that, on this occasion, our driver did not meet the standard we require of them.

“All our drivers are instructed that if strike another vehicle they must always leave a card, which we provide them with, that contains all the relevant details for the third party. Thankfully incidents of this type are quite rare but when they do occur we take them very seriously.”
