A CORSHAM independent school has been ranked in the top 10 independent schools in the south west.

Heywood Preparatory School is rated number seven in the list compiled by the 2007 Sunday Times Parent Power league tables.

Nationally, it is ranked 123th, an improvement of four places on its 2006 showing.

The fully searchable tables and schools' guide is published online with The Sunday Times tomorrow.

The 2,000 top schools listed on the website are searchable by postcode, town, region, education authority and name of school.

As well as assessment of all academic results on a school-by-school basis, Parent Power enables parents to compare the performance of a given school with other schools in the same town, local authority, region or nationally.

There are also live links to school websites and inspection reports.

Now in its 17th year of publication, Parent Power is widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the country's best schools.

Independent preparatory schools are ranked on a three-year Sat analysis, this time at Key Stage 2, Level 5.
