STUDENTS from Corsham School abandoned the classroom and headed to a local firm to find out more about how businesses work.
A-level product design students from the school in The Tynings and two of the school staff visited Park Lane Press on the Leafield Industrial Estate on Thursday.
The sixth form students were shown around the facilities of the press firm, which produces marketing and corporate communication printed matter such as annual reviews, product brochures, direct mail and stationery.
The company approached the school and offered them a site visit in a bid to become more involved in the local community as well as putting business in to practice for students preparing for the world of work.
Libby Ferguson, sales manager and environmental officer, said: "The students were interested in the quality and environmental management systems that Park Lane Press operate.
"They don't get many opportunities to go out in to businesses and they are just less then a mile away so we thought we could offer them a site visit."
Pupils also learned about the environmental approach taken by Park Lane Press, which commit to recycling more than 88 per cent of their waste, as well as working with vegetable oil based inks among other things.
The firm hopes to host an open evening for local businesses early next year to encourage them to reduce their carbon footprint as well as implement environmental management systems.
