Shoe can solve Corsham mystery?

A Corsham dog walker is seeking information about a mysterious pair of shoes that are nailed to the ground in the middle of Weavern Woods near Corsham.

The men’s brown leather shoes, which are nailed to the ground have become the centre of speculation by walkers and runners who use the path linking Corsham to Slaughterford.

Andrew Williams, of Dicketts Road, Corsham said the mystery has been going on for at least 12 years and hopes people may be able to help solve it.

He said: “I moved to Corsham from Bath about 12 years ago and decided to explore the local area. I went for a walk in Weavern Woods in 1997 as I thought it looked like a nice route and that is when I came across some shoes.

“Originally there were pink ladies shoes there. A few years later they were replaced by pink ladies’ boots in 2006, presumably because they were worn down.”

He said the boots were replaced two years ago by the men’s shoes as they had been torn down, possibly by an animal and they have been there ever since.

Mr Williams said: “I just find it really intriguing. I thought it was a bit strange at first and something weird might be going on but now it’s just turned into a big mystery. It would be nice to find out why they are there.”

That's hilarious that the Bray boys nailled the shoes there on boxing day... I grew up on Tutton Hill in Colerne, in the 70's, as did the Bray's...
I first saw shoes on Weavern Lane back in 2001 when mountainbiking, back then they were white (or pink) ladies shoes, which rotted and were replaced by the pink boots about 4-6 years ago.
According to my father, who used to pass those woods in the 60's, there has always been a pair of shoes there, back in the 50's and 60's that lane was the shortest drunken walking route from Corsham/Biddestone to Slaughterford/Rudloe
/Colerne, and a girl lost her shoes in the mud, they were found later and placed on the tree stump, but she never came back for them.
We call that Lane "Cow-Pizz Alley" and I try to ride there whenever I am back in the UK.

I now live in Sweden, but have continued the tradition over here, by nailling some white shoes to a tree stump on my favourite swedish muddy-wet-smelly trail......

The legend lives on...
