CORSHAM Town Band had reason to blow their own trumpets this week as they won a top competition on the south coast.
The band travelled to Weymouth where they competed in the Wessex Annual Band contest at the weekend.
Playing Diamond Heritage, by Darryl Barry, they scooped first prize in section one, considered as the equivalent of one league below the Premiership.
John Light, chairman of the band, said: "Our principal solo cornet player, Nick House, also won best cornet player in the section.
"It was a great day and we are already looking forward to trying to retain our crown next year."
The band will perform Christmas carols at Corsham Town Hall at 7.30pm on Sunday. Tickets from the TIC on (01249) 714660 or the town council on (01249) 702130.
