Artists given studios shot

Aspiring artists are being sought by The Pound in Corsham to occupy three studios due to open this autumn.

The arts centre, in Pound Pill, is welcoming applications from anyone who would like to be one of its new artists-in-residence when a £170,000 project to renovate a former toilet outbuilding is finished.

Work on the facility may be completed this week and will bring three studios and a community workshop.

The Pound aims to have local groups using the workshop at the start of September and the studios up and running, once artists have been selected, by the beginning of October.

Ian Martin, the executive director of The Pound, said: “This facility is going to bring a new, exciting dimension to the community and support emerging artists.

“We are entirely open to welcoming applications from a range of artists to be one of our artists-in-residence.

“We are looking for at least three artists, but we might even want four, as two could potentially share one of the studios.”

Artists, can stay in residence at The Pound for up to three years. Applications must be submitted by the end of September.

The majority of the funds for the work have come from grants from Arts Council England, Wiltshire Council, other local groups and donations from Pound visitors.

Interested artists can call on 01249 701628 or email box.office@ poundarts.org.uk.
