Melksham Scouts have card deliveries sorted
8:00pm Saturday 27th October 2012 in Melksham
Melksham Scouts, Cubs and Beavers get ready for their Christmas card delivery rounds in the town, which are being supported by Mayor Chris Petty
Santa will not be the only one making deliveries in Melksham this Christmas, with the town’s Scouts get set to deliver festive cards.
Scouts, Beavers and Cubs will be running their own postal service, collecting, sorting and delivering cards to raise funds for the group.
Designated post boxes will be set up in shops, to collect in cards for distribution across the Melksham, Bowerhill and Berryfields areas.
The boxes will be available from November 15, with a single mass delivery taking place on December 13.
Stamps for the cards will cost 20p, which will go to the Scout troop. Cash can be deposited in the boxes with the cards. Post box locations will include the Town Hall, the Scout Hut and the Tourist Information Centre.
The scheme is organised by Scout leaders Chris Neal and Dawn Toop.
Ms Toop said: “This is the first time we’ve tried anything like this, but it has been done by other Scout groups in Cardiff and Salisbury. If it goes well, we may be expanding it.”
