Policeare urging elderly people to remain vigilant, after a Melksham OAP was conned out of £25,000 in a telephone scam.
The 84-year-old was contacted several times between October 1 and 8, to inform her she had won £485,000 in a prize draw. She was convinced to pay £25,000 to the scammers to receive her prize but was left out of pocket when they failed to pay out.
Wiltshire Police have urged elderly residents to be particularly wary of telephone scams, and to always check validation of any callers before parting with money.
