Residents in sheltered accommodation in Melksham were celebrating last weekend, after a local electrical contractor stepped in to save their Christmas dinner.

The 47 residents at Rowley Place were preparing to cancel their Christmas meal after one of the two cookers in their shared kitchen broke down in August, forcing them to abandon their weekly lunch clubs.

Trowbridge-based contractors Ewart Adams, who carry out repairs and maintenance at Rowley Place, saved the day, by donating a new cooker.

Nick Galpin, chairman of Rowley Place and Ruskin Avenue Social Club, said: “I’m over the moon they’ve come to save the day. It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
