The body of the man killed in a crash on Christmas Day in Melksham has been flown back to Lithuania.

Nerijus Partikas, 30, was a passenger in a Blue Audi A6 with four others when it hit a wall outside the Cooper Tires factory on Bath Road. The car left the road and collided side-on with the wall at 3.34am.

Mr Partikas lived in Melksham with other Lithuanian immigrants, but had no family in the UK. His family has been contacted through the Lithuanian embassy, who arranged for undertakers to come to the UK to collect his body.

He suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene and was revived by paramedics and volunteer doctors from Swift Medics, but later died at Frenchay Hospital after being cut from the car by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service. The road was closed for six hours while police recovered the wreckage.

One other passenger from the crash is still in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries and will remain there for some time, while the other three have all been released. All the passengers were foreign, but not all were from Lithuania.

The four men and one woman involved in the crash were returning home to Melksham after a night out in Chippenham. Wiltshire Police are still investigating the causes of the crash, and anyone who saw the Audi travelling into Melksham in the early hours is asked to contact PC Williamson of the serious collision investigation team on 101.
