After exceeding expectations last year, Melksham’s own comic conven- tion is back, and promising to be bigger and better.

Last year saw the town’s first convention, when almost 600 people came to meet comic book artists and writers.

Plans are well under way for this year’s event, which will be held on August 31 at the Assembly Hall.

Already confirmed guests include Batman artist Mike Collins and X-Men writer Rob Williams, as well as Emma Vieceli and Kate Brown, who have both worked on manga adaptations of Shakespeare.

Bookings are still being taken for exhibitors and retailers, but organiser Hayley Spencer said spaces are filling up fast.

She said: “We are still taking bookings, but anyone who came to last year’s event will know that the venue isn’t massive and we are limited to just 50 table spaces in total – that includes all our guests’ tables as well.”

The not-for-profit event is run by a team of volunteers. Miss Spencer said: “The fact that it’s run by volunteers is a big thing for us, everyone gives up their time to help make it happen.

“We rely on fundraising, donations, table booking, ticket sales and sponsorship to create a fantastic day for all who attend.”

Tickets will be available from www.melkshamcomiccon.co.uk, where the final line-up will also be announced.
