Melksham residents can honour the town’s dairy past by raising a glass of something stronger, now the name of its newest pub has been revealed.

Brewers Hall and Woodhouse are currently building a new pub off the A350 near Bowerhill, and put out the chance to name it to members of the public, in conjunction with the Area Board.

Speaking at Wednesday’s Area Board meeting at the Assembly Hall, Councillor Jonathon Seed announced the new pub would be called The Milk Churn, as suggested by Mrs Jeannette Nash, who won a year’s supply of beer from the brewery.

He said: “I sat down with the chairman of the brewery and we went through quite a range of entries, all of which had a historic context, either with the RAF base or with Melksham’s milking past.

“We’re very excited to welcome them to the town. It will bring more business to Melksham, and employ 30 people.”

The pub is due to open next June.
