A man assaulted a policeman when he was caught with drugs he was going to supply.

Solomon Skinner had a large amount of cannabis when he was stopped in his car in Melksham on Monday, February 4, last year.

And the 27-year-old, from Bristol, also had almost £5,000 in cash when he was pulled over by the police, Swindon Crown Court heard yesterday.

But he insists he had been given the money along with the drugs and he did not know it was the proceeds of crime.

Skinner, of Willsbridge Hill, Bristol, admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply, possession of the drug and assaulting a police officer with intent to resist arrest.

He pleaded not guilty a charge of to possessing criminal property, in the form of £4,775 in cash and the prosecution said they would not be seeking a trial on that matter and instead try to reclaim it under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The case was adjourned to Friday, February 7 for a pre-sentence report and Skinner was released on bail to stay out of Wiltshire until then.
