Melksham people young and old who have enjoyed using the Canberra Youth Centre got together on friday for an event marking its closure.
The Spa Road centre, which was opened in the late 1960s, has closed following a £191,000 cut to Wiltshire Council’s youth services budget. The closing party welcomed back people of all ages who have been a part of the centre’s history.
Entertainment included a bucking bronco, face painting, loom band making and a bouncy castle.
Siobainn Chaplin, Wiltshire Council’s locality team leader, said: “We even welcomed an 85-year-old lady who used to run the centre.
“The highlight was the memory book. It was great to see what people’s most fond memory was.”
Around 50 people attended. A tombola included prizes supplied by Leeks, and drinks were donated by Texaco.
