The George Ward School in Melksham could soon be set for demolition, after Wilt-shire Council formally applied for permission to knock down the former high school.
Outlying planning permission for 270 new homes has already been granted for the site off Dunch Lane, which was also previously used for council offices during the renovation of County Hall in Trowbridge.
However, the council has had to formally apply for permission to demolish the 1950s school, following the sale of the land to Persimmon Homes.
The school was closed in 2011 following the opening of the new Melksham Oak Community School on Bath Road, Bowerhill.
