Residents from 18 of the county’s care homes gathered to showcase the fruits of their labour at the annual Wiltshire Flower, Vegetable and Craft Show, organised by the Orders of St John Care Trust.

A selection of fruity artwork, vegetables and crochet were among the items on display at Seend Community Centre.

Karen Johnson, volunteers and activities manager, said: “It was really well attended – there were around 150 people including residents, staff, volunteers and judges.

“It was really positive, everyone really enjoyed it and we were surprised about the amount of produce.”

The day started with a picnic lunch followed by music from Ukebox Jury, before the produce judging began. Brookside care home at Ruskin Avenue, Melksham won the jam category.

Rosalyn Clark, from Melksham and District Flower Arrangement Society, and Gill Acornley and Colleen Russell from Seend’s Women’s Institute were among the judges, and were joined by the mayor of Melksham, Terri Welch.
