POLICE are warning drivers to be on their guard after someone ran in front of the car of a man in his 70s and rolled on the bonnet, possibly as part of a scam.

Officers belive that the pedestrian, who was with a group of friends, deliberately ran in front of the car in Union Street, Melksham, to entice the pensioner to get out to either get money off him or perhaps steal the car.

After the incident at 3.30pm on Friday, October 31, the pedestrian appeared to have blood on his face but officers do not believe it was genuine. His friends ran away from the scene.

PCSO Chris Pugh, of Melksham Neighbourhood Policing Team, is advising anyone to call the police if something similar happens to them.

He says if that anyone having an accident should not hand money over and should always go through their insurance company.

If something about the situation after an accident feels unusual his advice is to only exchange names and car registrations through the vehicle window and to do not get out.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
