A LADY-in-waiting to the Queen, whose home is in the village of Seend, is one of the Wiltshire people to make it into the pages of the 2015 edition of Who’s Who.

Dame Annabel Whitehead, of Seend Lodge, 71, usually keeps a low profile when accompanying the monarch on official engagements.

However, she unwittingly made the headlines during a trip to the Commonwealth Games in the summer.

A photographer picked up on the Queen trying to get a glimpse of the action in the swimming heats when her view was blocked by Dame Helen's large hat.

A sequence of shots recorded her attempts to dodge around her lady-in-waiting to see the men’s 50m and women’s 100m butterfly.

The Daily Mail also claimed Dame Annabel’s green outfit was too close for comfort to the Queen’s own garments.

In the past, she has made the day of pupils at various schools in Wiltshire by replying to letters sent to the Queen.

She has been on the royal lady-in-waiting circuit for some time, having been the temporary lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, between 1971 and 1975.

In 2002, the American-born royal servant was invested as a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO).

Then, last year, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (DCVO) for her services.

She married Christopher James Bovill Whitehead in 1973 and together they have two children: Christina Daisy Elizabeth Whitehead, who was born 1975 and Robert William Bovill Whitehead, born in 1977.

Wiltshire Council boss Michael Hudson is another Wiltshire notable to make his debut appearance in the new edition of Who’s Who.

Mr Hudson, 44, who is director of finance at Wiltshire Council, based in the County Hall, Trowbridge, is listed in the annual publication because of his council work.

He started at the authority in October 2010, having previously been director of corporate resources at Hull City Council and head of finance at Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council.
