Playtime has been taken to new and exciting level at St Mary’s School in Broughton Gifford thanks to a new play pod.

Pupils can put their creativity to the test and use materials such as fabric, cardboard and tubing to make anything they want from boats to animals.

Different materials will arrive every term from Wiltshire Scrapstore, which will be supervising the children as play mentors and encouraging them to be resourceful. The Scrapstore PlayPod has been funded by a lottery grant as part of Awards for All England and costs £600 a year.

Headteacher Angela McAuley said it was something for the whole community to use. “The children love it,” she said. “Play will be different to the normal running about, it’s constructive and the sky is the limit to what they do with it.”
