A FAST response by firefighters stopped a chimney blaze from spreading into a thatched roof in Emms Lane, Bratton, in Westbury.

Two crews, from Westbury and Trowbridge, were called in on Friday and dampened the thatch.

A BICYCLE was stolen from outside a property in College Road, Trowbridge overnight last Tuesday. The bike, which was secured by a lock, was a black and white CB Boardman and police are appealing for anyone with information to call 101.

A FIRE broke out in the chimney above a log-burning stove at a house in Duck Street, Sutton Veny, on Friday at 7.55pm. Two fire crews from Warminster were called and firefighters stayed for nearly three hours, lifting floorboards and removing brickwork to make sure the flames had been extinguished.

A MELKSHAM resident living in Belvedere Road has complained to Melksham Without Parish Council about older children playing football on the grass area and is asking for a ‘No Ball Games’ sign to be put up and the grass inspected.

WASTE bins in public toilets in Warminster have been set alight twice in two days. Just before 6pm last Thursday a bin in the ladies’ toilets in the central car park was set ablaze and firefighters doused it using buckets of water. On Friday they used a hose to quench a blaze in a bin in the toilets in Station Road just after 4pm.
