Two Melksham radio presenters are hoping to break a world record and put the town on the map by presenting their show continuously for eight days without stopping.

Alan Byrne and Will Bridger from Melksham Town Sound will be eating, sleeping and living at the station in Sandridge Road as they attempt to be on air for 199 hours.

The current Guinness World record for the longest, continuous DJ marathon is 198 hours – set by Netherlands DJ Giel Beelen last year. The record for a team is just over 84 hours and by two DJs in Dubai in 2013.

Mr Byrne, 28, from Calne, – a PCSO for Corsham’s Neighbourhood Policing Team – was inspired to take up the challenge by former Radio One presenter Chris Moyles who did 52 hours in 2011 for Comic Relief.

“It will be my home for eight days,” said Mr Byrne “I’m feeling a mixture of emotions, but more excited, I just want to do it now.”

Every hour the ambitious duo will bank up a five minute break which they can take when they have reached 30 minutes. During that time they can nap on the blow-up bed or use a cross-trainer to exercise.

Mr Byrne’s fiancé Jade Aldersley, 25, is preparing his meals throughout the challenge.

To keep listeners entertained the pair will be doing quizzes, phone-ins and competitions.

As well as breaking the world record they are hope to raise £2,500 for the WWF.

Station manger Mr Bridger, 17, from Spa Road, set up the station in 2012 and is currently petitioning OFCOM for an FM licence so they can be broadcast around the town.

The challenge starts on Saturday at 9am. To donate go to uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AlanByrneOnTheRun and to listen live go to: melkshamtownsound.co.uk
