ESSENTIAL gas mains work starts tomorrow on Bath Road, Melksham.
The work by gas distribution company Wales & West Utilities (WWU), which will begin at the junction of Sainsbury's Roundabout, is expected to take around six weeks to complete.
The £50,000 project to replace 116 metres of mains gas pipes is a major investment designed to bring improved safety and security of supply to people and businesses in the area.
To minimise disruption, WWU has avoided the use of road closures. However, traffic management will be introduced.
Businesses will be open as usual and pedestrian access to shops and premises will be maintained at all times.
All businesses in the affected area have been notified and WWU will continue to work closely with Wiltshire County Council to ensure that inconvenience is kept to a minimum.
The work is part of a multi-million pound 30-year replacement programme across Wales and the South West where old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are to be replaced with highly durable, non-corroding plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years.
