A CHARITY is on the move after outgrowing its building in Melksham.
The Wiltshire Scrapstore and Resource Centre, a county-wide group that aims to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, is moving to larger premises in Lacock.
Its current headquarters at The Fortress on the edge of the Avonside Enterprise Park in Melksham had become cramped as the charity's work expanded and membership grew.
Dilys Fisher, manager of the scrapstore said: "The current lease was about to end, so after many fruitless searches for an affordable larger building with lots of parking, it was a great relief to discover a building at Griffin Farm on the Bowden Hill in Lacock."
The charity, which helps prevent resources going to landfill sites in Wiltshire by collecting re-usable waste from businesses and redistributing it for use by children in creative play, has been based in Melksham for six years.
It has grown steadily over the years and according to its members, more than 62,000 children and young people now benefit from its services.
"The new building doubles our existing space and provides the opportunity to offer new services such as creative parties, something we have often been asked for, but been unable to provide," added Dilys.
The charity operates an expanding outreach service where scrap and resources are taken to venues all over the county.
The new premises will provide much-needed additional storage space and allow a wider range of materials to be available to members.
Other plans include the creation of a dedicated area to produce goods from reusable waste resources and a young person's scrapstore area where they can safely choose their own resources for use in the training room.
The last open day in Melksham for members is Thursday April 5 and the centre will reopen on Saturday April 21 in Lacock. The new telephone number after the move will be 01249 730011. For further details visit www.wiltsplay.org.uk
