PERSONAL trainer DJ Hussey has taken training with his clients to another level after he whisked seven of them away to walk 89 miles of Hadrian’s Wall.

The 28-year-old from Hilperton wanted to do it as a personal challenge for himself and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support at the same time, so decided to rope in his wife Aimee, 28, and some of his clients to put their walking boots to the test.

“We met lots over the course of around 6 months for training walks,” Mr Hussey said, “We set our sights on raising around £1,000 for the charity and had our minds blown by the sheer volume of support we received.”

The group included Mark Hanman, Julie Davis, Judith Greenman, Amy Greenman, Nick Cook, Alison Johnson, Neil Johnson all from Melksham and Neston along with Mr and Mrs Hussey and two support crew members Tracey Haman and Ian Davis who cooked and cared for the team.

They began their walk on April 16 starting at 8am and finishing at 6pm every day, walking around 30 miles at a time before finishing three days later on the Sunday.

“We were utterly blown away at lunch time on day four when we heard the news that we'd raised over £3,000,” Mr Hussey said, who runs New Era Fitness in Bowerhill and Titan Boot Camp in Trowbridge.

“The journey itself couldn't have been more rewarding, absolutely broken by day four we pulled together and finished the walk, at a final walking distance of 89 miles over the four days.

“We didn't stop laughing from the first morning to the last night when we packed into our minibus to drive home."
