A PETITION to stop the RUH Hopper bus being axed will be presented to Wiltshire Council tomorrow to persuade them to reconsider their plans to withdraw its funding.

It has been signed by more than 2,000 people and will be handed over at the annual council meeting taking place at County Hall in Trowbridge at 11am.

The petition was launched by Independent Councillors Terry Chivers and Jeff and Helen Osborn, who are hoping as many people as possible turn up tomorrow to show their support to save it.

The bus, which is also known as Connect 2, transports residents from North and West Wiltshire to the Royal United Hospital in Bath and is mainly used by elderly residents in the area who rely on it to get to their hospital appointments.

Since announcing £130,000 would be cut from Wiltshire Council’s budget earlier this year to fund it, many have been quick to express their upset, which prompted the petition to be made.

Cllr Chivers said: “The petition is being presented by Doug Ross of Trowbridge Link, it would be wonderful if we could pack the Council Chamber to show that we aren’t going away and we intend to fight this to the bitter end.

“We have also put down a Notice of Motion to the Council to try and ensure our petition gets a proper debate on the day.”
