YOUNGSTERS from eight primary schools competed in a football tournament at Stonar Prep School in Atworth on Wednesday.

The teams went head-to-head in the under nine's 5-a-side matches. They included Holt Primary School, The Mead Primary from Trowbridge, North Bradley Primary, Hilperton Primary, Shaw Primary, Bathampton Primary and St Marys Broughton Gifford Primary school as well as Stonar.

Out on the pitches players demonstrated great sportsmanship and skills and the overall tournament winners were Holt Primary School. Runners up were Bathampton Primary School and a trophy for sportsmanship was awarded to The Mead. Host school Stonar’s A Team were knocked out in the quarter finals.

Mark Brain, head of Stonar Prep, presented the awards. He thanked all the players and supporters for participating, he added: “It was a pleasure to host the Wiltshire Primary Schools U9 Football Tournament and to welcome so many enthusiastic and skilful young footballers to Stonar.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, representing their schools with pride, commitment and high standards of sportsmanship throughout.”
