BOTH dogs and golfers were welcome at Whitley Golf Club’s family fun day on Saturday.

And all eyes were on the dog show which attracted 46 dogs of all shapes and sizes to try their luck at being picked as most handsome pooch or the one with the waggiest tail.

Their efforts were rewarded with a rosette while their owners enjoyed a variety of stalls from cake and preserves to a hogroast which proved popular as did the games of crazy golf people could try their hand at.

For the youngsters there was a bouncy castle, face painting and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen paid them a visit.

The clubs captain committee has hailed it as their best fun day yet and they raised £1,500 for the Melksham Cancer Research group and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Chairman of the committee Keith Brooks said: “It’s interesting when you have a successful day how many people say how wonderful it was.

“It was very success for Whitley Golf Club, we’ve had our fun days for several years but it’s normally golf based, the thing that was different about this years was the dog show which was very popular and attracted the children to get involved.”

Westland Agility Dog Training also gave a presentation using hurdles and invited people to let their dogs try and learn a new skill.

The day also started with a captains breakfast and the because of the success of the event they are planning to do it again next year. They are also organising a charity auction at Shaw Hotel on September 26.

Mr Brooks added: “It was all about having fun with the children on a lovely sunny day.”
