Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses following reports that a Chippenham man was attacked in Melksham.

The man sustained injuries to his eye socket and nose and was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath by ambulance but discharged himself soon after.

The 33-year-old was out in Melksham town centre during the evening of Saturday July 4 and claims he was attacked by three men some time between 1am and 2am on Sunday July 5 in the Bath Road/High Street area.

It is believed he was robbed of a small amount of money which he had in a trouser pocket.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was out in Melksham on that evening and may have seen something suspicious.

"The victim was seen leaving The Bear pub around 12.15am. But he was also spotted again, by door staff, around 1.15am. Were you around the area at this time? Did you see the victim or a group of three men acting suspiciously?

"We would like to hear from anyone who may remember this man or saw something out of the ordinary on the Saturday night or early on the Sunday morning."

Anyone with information should call PC Cerys Powell on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
