STUDENTS eagerly lined up outside Melksham Oak School to find out their A Level results this morning - with nearly half of all grades ranking A*-B.

The school had 62 students sit exams, with the pass rate of 99 per cent.

In total, 80 per cent of all grades were at A*-C – a figure that is up 10 per cent on last year.

Bagging a place at her first choice, Bournemouth University, Rhian Berry managed to get an A, B and C which will allow her to study events management.

“I’m ecstatic to know that I got the grades to get in. I was just revising constantly and I didn’t have a social life but it was all worth it in the end. I checked my email this morning but didn’t have anything so I panicked but it was when I checked UCAS that I found out the news and I just started crying from where I was happy.”

Toby Little, 18 took a very laid back and relaxed approach to collecting his results after his predicted grades secured him a spot on a business traineeship at the Consortium in Trowbridge.

He said: “I’ve already got a job so I just wanted to have a happy face and make my parents proud with the results which I have done.”

Luke Stratford couldn’t believe his eyes when he opened his envelope to reveal he had achieved one A and two B’s.

“I’m just over the moon because with my grades I can go do a business apprenticeship.

“It’s been a lot of work but I think my interest for business grew from doing economics at school and I didn’t think I would be able to do it.”

Headteacher at Melksham Oak Community School, Steve Clark said he is “once again proud of the students’ achievements”.

He added: “Our 99% pass rate, and the fact that very nearly half of all grades achieved were at A*-B, are evidence of the year-round hard work of all members of our community. These fantastic results continue to demonstrate the progress that we are making towards becoming a great school for Melksham.”
