TOPS Hair Salon in Melksham was voted Best Looking Business for autumn 2015 after a public vote.

The award was created by Melksham Town Team to recognise the special effort businesses make with their shop displays and general appearance.

Tops, in the High Street, is owned by mum Sandra Stephens and daughters Alex and Victoria and has been in the family for the 37 years.

Manager Alex Stephens, 33, said: “We were all really pleased. It is a team effort, not just the three of us. Everyone pitches in to help out.

“We try to keep up to date with everything. Over the last year we have done a lot more modernisation. We have decorated it and given it a lick of paint.

“We keep all the stylists up to date with all the latest training and in the last year we added beauty.

“We just generally keep it clean and decorated. We have installed a new computer system. We try hard to make it welcoming for clients.”

The new Mind charity shop in Church Street came second and in third place was Two Little Ducks of Bank Street.

Ms Stephens added: “I would like to thank everyone who voted for us and the Melksham Town Team for giving us the trophy.”

Belle of the Ball Bridals and The Samovar also received a lot of nominations, with Komix, Procol, Waitrose, Nine Volt Leap, the Tourist Information Centre and Bewleys Funeral Care also nominated.

The town council will be running a Best Christmas Window Display competition in December, which is a separate annual award, and the Town Team’s Best Looking Business award will resume in the spring.
