DOROTHY House Hospice Care is launching a Snowdrop event in the grounds of Great Chalfield Manor, near Melksham, on February 14.

The National Trust property is not normally open to the public at this time of year but Robert and Patsy Floyd have offered to host the event for Dorothy House and to allow visitors to walk around the grounds.

The 15th-century moated house, which featured in the production of the award-winning BBC dramas Wolf Hall and Poldark, will be open for people to see the snowdrops as well as listen to live music indoors.

Dorothy House community fundraiser Yvonne Brunton said: “This is such a lovely event and one that we are really looking forward to.

“Many people think snowdrops are the first real sign of spring, and what better way to see them than in such an enchanting place?

“I would like to thank Robert and Patsy Floyd for allowing us to host this event. They have been so supportive over the years.

“Hopefully the sun will be out which would make a lovely day that little bit better.”

The Great Chalfield Snowdrop event launches the Dorothy House Open Gardens season, which coincides with the charity’s 40th anniversary.

Refreshments are available including homemade cakes, tea and coffee in the barn. The gardens are open from 2pm-4pm. There will also be music in the chapel.

Entrance is £4, which goes to Dorothy House. For more information call Yvonne Brunton on 01225 721480.
