BROUGHTON Gifford Pink Floyd tribute act A Floydian Trip have teamed up with the parish council and raised enough money for a defibrillator in the village.

The band raised £1,000 through a series of gigs which was matched by the council to provide a four-year contract for a defibrillator, which has now been placed on The Fox pub in The Street.

Guitarist Steve Meggs said: “We put on several gigs to raise money. We even got help from Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, who lives in Box. He donated some drumsticks and albums. We did three gigs in the village hall and one in Atworth.”

Mr Meggs, who worked with parish councillor Martin Freeman and local electrician John Drummond, who installed the defibrillator, on the project, added: “It has been the biggest feat to get a defibrillator. I did not think there would be so much bother but There was a bit of a mountain to climb. We had to get past certain pieces of bureaucracy. Even placing it was difficult as if you just have it in a box on a wall, it will not work as it has to be maintained at a certain temperature.

“That is one of the reasons we chose The Fox, for logistical reasons, but also because there is an even supply of electricity.

“It has taken a while but it was definitely worth it. We actually disbanded after that as we are not young anymore but we hope to be back soon with a David Bowie act.”
