MELKSHAM Oak School students have raised £360 for the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group at the RUH.

The money was raised when Year 8 and 9 students created a series of gifts that were sold at the Christmas market.

Their efforts came to fruition when they presented the cheque to the chairman at the cancer care unit.

Head of design and technology Kirstie Jones said: "It was amazing. It was really good team work. It is the first time that I have taken it over and I am obviously extremely proud and they were really into it.

"When they handed the money over they were so excited. Truly beaming from ear to ear. I am so amazed that we have reached all this money. Cancer touches a lot of people so it is great to raise all this cash for such a good cause.

"All the kids really engaged in it. They were all little stars. They loved planning it all with Christmas puddings and stockings.

"It was a great team effort. If someone was ill there was always another one of them to step up and take their place."

Melksham Oak also held a house competition to design a Christmas card to be sold in packs with Ethan Nelson in Year 8 of Polaris House winning the competition.
