OWNERS of a Melksham dance school have had a six year wish for a new dance floor answered after an anonymous benefactor donated £1,000 towards its construction.

Since moving to their new home in Church Lane in 2010, the Melksham School of Ballet, Tap & Modern has needed a new dance floor but were unable to afford the £2,000 price tag.

Mother and daughter duo, Anne Barret and Jayne Green, who own the 120 pupil strong school, began to raise money back in autumn but were shocked to be handed the generous cheque.

Mrs Barret said: “It was wonderful and a big surprise. We have no idea who it was. This is more or less a dream come true.

"It cost us about £1,800 to build the dance floor so we just could not have done it without the donation. It would have taken us a lot longer.

“The floor is wonderful to dance on. It makes such a difference and it is beneficial to everyone here."

Together with the money raised in autumn from a raffle and programme sales a new Harlequin dance floor was bought.

Mrs Barret added: “Girls who dance on point shoes need a floor that is non-slip and this floor is great for tap dancing and modern too – it is good all round.

“We are delighted and so appreciative to the anonymous donor, who made this possible and wanted to show off the new floor in case he or she reads this – thank you.”
