THE Melksham Air Cadets are flying high after getting their flight simulator off the ground despite a mammoth six month wait for it to be ready.

Each cadet will now be able to go through a pilot style syllabus where they can learn to take off, land and operate the radio system.

Flight commander John Gillespie said: “It is an excellent resource and many thanks should go to the Lottery Fund as it really would not be possible without them.

“The cadets love it and the ones that used it thought it was fantastic. We will actually be having a pilot come in to train the cadets in how to use it.”

The simulator, which mimics a Hercules aircraft, will be backed up by two training simulators with cadets able to log hours that can be counted towards a full pilot licence.

Mr Gillespie added: “We had a few teething problems and tested it a couple of times and there are still a few things we need to tweak.

“We have been working on it for the last six months and it is great to get it up and running finally.”
