THOUSANDS of pounds was raised for Box charity Jamie’s Farm following the Great Chalfield Manor’s Plant Fair fundraiser.

A total of £4,000 was raised from the event which was then split between Jamie’s Farm, a charity that re-engages vulnerable children at risk of social and academic exclusion to work on farms, and the charity Friends of Great Chalfield.

On top of the plant fair, the event on Sunday, May 1, included a lunch barbecue, a chance to explore the manor, its gardens and a tea and cake sale, with more than 900 people attending.

Fundraiser Sarah Wheeler said: "It was a very successful day. We were up on numbers and the amount raised from last year which is great.

"We would like to say a big thank you to the tenants Patsy and Robert Floyd and the National Trust for choosing us for the fourth straight year and for their continued support.

"It was a wonderful atmosphere and people came from outside of the county to come and see which is testament to the quality of plants to see.

"This is a great way for us to get people involved with the charity and raise its awareness."

Katie Francis, fundraising and volunteer manager, said: “It was a lovely bank holiday event that attracted a green-fingered audience and was a wonderful day out in a beautiful setting.

“This is one of the highlights of our year along with our charity bike ride to our Herefordshire branch and the Cock and Bull Music Festival in July."
