REVELLERS at the Lacock Scarecrow Trail soaked up the sun over the bank holiday weekend as they attempted to decipher the hidden identities of each

of the hand-made figures on display.

Now a well-established mark in people's calendar, the festival drew crowds from all over to enjoy the villagers' craftsmanship, with some 50 scarecrows dotted around the picturesque village for people to find.

Throughout the weekend at least 4,000 people lined the streets clutching sheets of paper to mark on their guesses as to what board game, for the adult trail, or brand of sweet, for the children's, the scarecrows represented.

The trail was put on by Friends of Lacock School and will see the proceeds go towards Lacock Primary, located in High Street.

Emily Parry, Friends of Lacock committee member, said: “We had loads of people coming from all over for this year’s trail.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy it and really loved the Hungry Hippo board game one that was on one of the villager’s windows.

“That was amazing and caught the attention of everyone who was there. The village was really packed.

“I remember starting to sell the sheets and then watching the whole car park just flood with people.

“Even some of the seasoned veterans said that this year there were some of the best scarecrows they have seen.”

The winners of the event will be announced on Friday, June 10 on the Friends of Lacock website.

Although as of yet unknown it is believed that the trail raised upwards of £6,000.

The money is going towards new IT equipment for Lacock Primary School as well as a trip to a Christmas pantomime for the children.

“Lacock Primary is a fabulous little school, really beautiful and I remember as soon as I saw it I fell in love with it,” added the 28-year-old mother of two.

“I have my five-year-old, Benji, there now in Willow Class in reception and my daughter Florrie will be attending in September 2017.

“We are all exhausted and tired after putting it on but feeling very relieved that it is over and done with but also delighted that everyone had such an amazing time.

“That everyone who came enjoyed it was what it was all about for us. It makes giving up our bank holiday weekend worth it.”
