FOOD glorious food was on display at Great Chalfield Manor this weekend for the third edition of their popular food festival.

Nearly 700 visitors turned out for a two-day feast of local produce, street food, artisan food and folk music at the 15th century moated house near Melksham.

In total 16 different food stalls were set up, including cheese, scotch eggs, Indian food, Thai food, pies and much more.

Owners Robert and Patsy Floyd were thrilled out at the turnout and the vast array of offerings on display.

"As far as weekends go, it was a very enjoyable one and one to remember certainly," said Mr Floyd.

"There was a wonderful atmosphere, with a host of great and varied stalls on show. The feedback we have received was all positive which was nice.

"It is one of the highlights of the year and certainly one that we really look forward to - it was lovely to be part of it all."

For £4, guests were treated to a wide offering of food and drink as well as an opportunity to walk around the seven acres of gardens.

Alex Joll, owner of Bradford on Avon pie company Eat Square, was full of praise for the festival, which raises funds to maintain the gardens and for the parish church.

"We had a great weekend selling our produce. Although there was thunder and lightning, spirits were still high which was great to see," said Mr Joll.

"Sunday in particular was fantastic. There was a really good turnout and there was a lovely community feel about the place - it really is a very quaint food fair."

On top of enjoying a memorable weekend, Mr and Mrs Floyd are celebrating the news that the manor will receive a £23,600 sum from Listed Places of Worship to help repair the manor's roofs. The work should begin at the end of September.

On December 10, a Christmas food festival will take place inside the National Trust site.
