HUNDREDS are expected to pay tribute to Melksham Oak Community School teaching assistant Keiren Edney, who died of suspected meningitis last month, at a day of football events on Sunday.
The Charlie Austin Football School, where the 21-year-old had coached, and Melksham Town, where he coached the under-16s, have organised the day at Melksham Town Football Club in Cedar Close.
Events in memory of Mr Edney begin at 10am and will feature children’s activities, a crossbar challenge, a penalty shootout challenge and a raffle.
This will be followed by Melksham Town’s under-16 side playing the Charlie Austin Football School at 12.30pm before finishing with Melksham X1 v Calne Eagles, the team he used to play for, at 2pm.
Steve Hooper, who runs the football school, said: “It should be a great day out to pay tribute to a fantastic person.
"The family have been brilliant and have really appreciated us putting this all together.
“Preparations for the event are going really well and hopefully we will have a good turnout. All the proceeds that are raised will be given to the family who will give it to charity, which is lovely.”
Entry is free.
