VOLUNTEERS from the Melksham McDonald’s teamed up with the Melksham Town team to help tidy up the centre of the town.

Mark Saunders, manager of the fast food store in the GEC Industrial Estate, Beanacre Road, and his team of workers joined the deputy town clerk Miriam Zaccarelli and Keep Britain Tidy to polish up Melksham town centre.

The group of volunteers cleared ten bags of litter from the streets of Melksham, receiving attention from passers-by who praised them for their hard work.

Ms Zaccarelli said: “It’s always good to hear about local businesses taking action to clean up the environment and making sure that Melksham remains an as attractive place as possible to live, work and visit. We were delighted that the McDonald’s volunteers joined with our Tidy Town Day and it is events like these that demonstrate what can be achieved when local business, residents and community groups come together.”

This year marks the sixth year of McDonald’s partnership with Keep Britain Tidy, working together to minimise litter. The campaign continues to encourage the local communities to take pride in their area and work together to keep their town’s clean.

Mike Guerin, owner of the McDonald’s in the industrial estate, said; “I was really proud to see everyone come together and help tidy up the local area. It was fantastic to get involved with the local community to make our town a pleasant place to both live and visit. I would particularly like to thank Miriam Zaccarelli and the rest of Melksham Town Council who allowed us to join the Tidy Town Day- we look forward to working with them in the future.”

McDonald’s restaurants across the county also take part in smaller scale litter pick events, ensuring the streets are cleared at least three times a day.

Allison Ogden-Newton, chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy, said: “To win the war on litter everyone needs to work together, with businesses having an exciting part to play. McDonald’s Love Where You Live initiative, together with their day-to-day commitment to tackling the problem through their litter patrols and their ongoing support Keep Britain Tidy, is an example of how a business can make a real difference.”
