A TEAM of design and technology pupils from Melksham Oak are waiting to see if they have placed in the top ten table of a national design competition.

The Year 9 team from the school in Bowerhill won their school competition for best design after they were tasked with creating a product as well as consider budgeting, design and manufacturing.

Kirstie Jones, head of DT at Melksham Oak, said: “It was set out like the Apprentice, the teams had to create a little company and assign themselves roles. We went to London and had a look around the V&A Museum in London and also carried out consumer surveys. There are 500 schools from across the country that take part in the competition so it would be great to have our team reach the top ten.”

After being given a milk bottle, the team created a flower themed mood light which will now be entered into the nationwide competition, part of the Design Museum and Deutsche Bank Designa Ventura project.

“We entered the competition for the first time last year and we will find out if we have wont by Friday November 25. It is a really nice project for them to do as they can then see the whole manufacturing process.”
