STAFF and residents of Brookside Car Home in Melksham took to the streets and marched in a procession for the home’s living nativity.

Meeting at 5pm on Sunday (December 11) outside of the Melksham Town Hall in the Market Place, a 300-strong crowd gathered dressed in festive garb, to take part in the care home’s third living nativity event. Six residents, five of whom were in wheelchairs, and five members of staff were joined by members of the Melksham community on their procession back to Brookside in Ruskin Avenue.

Jamie Carter, home manager for Brookside, said: “It went very well, everyone looked wonderful for the procession. Our CEO Dan Hayes was one of the men riding a camel. This all started to thank the community of Melksham for all of the support they give us at the home.”

The procession, which culminated into a carol service led by Pastor Tony Brown, helped to raise money for the care home’s chosen charities of the year.

“From Sunday we raised £237 for the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK which we can now add to what we have raised for the rest of the year. We have received a lot of help and support from people in the town to hold this event, especially the staff at the town hall and the Melksham Christmas lights team who have all been wonderful. It was just a very lovely and very enjoyable evening for everyone who took part or came out to watch,” added Mr Carter said.
