ORGANISERS of the Melksham Comic Con have announced that the festival will be taking a year gap before returning to the town in 2018with daughter Robyn Illman driving the car surrounded by fellow Organiers the Brians at the Melksham Comic C.

The convention, organised and run a group called The Brains, has been a popular event in the town for the past five years, attracting hundreds of comic book fans to the town for the August bank holiday weekend.

Now the organisers have officially announced they will be taking a one year gap before returning with the convention on July 7 and 8 2018.

Hayley Spencer, 31, of Blackmore Road, owner of Comix in Church Street and one of the organisers, said: “I think it has been a few years coming. There are 25 of us that are involved with the comic con and we have been doing it for five years, a lot has changed in our personal lives in that time. Two of the committee are having children and I am getting married at the end of the year, all of the committee are on the guest list for the wedding, so we have swapped comic con planning for wedding planning.”

Although the comic con will be taking a break, Miss Spencer wants to reassure the groups followers that the regular fundraisers and other themed events.

“We are still doing our quiz and pudding night on February 24, it is usually a very popular event where we get a large room of people to take part in the quiz. Tickets are available now from either Comix or from the Assembly Hall. We are still running our 1943 Stark Expo with 30 actors and a special guest appearance from Captain America. It will be similar to our An Evening With Bruce Wayne event where people got dressed up and came along,” explained Miss Spencer.

During the last evening, 150 people attended an evening of caped-crusading and live music, hosted by the fictitious Wayne Foundation at the Assembly Hall in the Market Place.

“It is similar to a Secret Cinema event, you will be speaking to actors in a 1940s setting, just as America joined the war. There will also be an exhibition of future technologies by Howard Stark. The tickets aren’t on sale yet but they are usually about £20 per person,” Miss Spencer said.
