MCDONALD’S in Melksham has reopened after undergoing a major redevelopment.

The biggest changes focus on providing customers with more choice when it comes to ordering, changing how they order and pay, adapting how the food is prepared and served and offering new technological features for customers.

One of the main new features of the restaurant, which was closed for 18 days as the £450,000 refurb was carried out, is the addition of new state of the art, self-order kiosks, which will give customers a new experience when ordering their food.

Franchisee Mike Guerin, who owns 12 McDonald’s restaurants including Trowbridge and Chippenham, said: “The reaction has been very positive so far. We’re on a journey and want to exceed customers’ expectations.

“Technology has a huge role to play in all walks of life, including our customers’ eating out experience, so the new technology we’ve introduced recognises the way people live their lives today.

“At first I wasn’t sure if table service would work but we’ve been able to incorporate it easily and customers seem to be really enjoying it so far.

“The tablets are a great addition too; they’re particularly good for families and businesspeople.”

Staff were trained how to use the new technologies at Trowbridge's branch while the refit was carried out.

This is the sixth restaurant owned by Mr Guerin which he has been redeveloped as part of the company’s ‘Experience of the Future’ initiative, which has so far been rolled out at around half of the company's 1,200 outlets.

“The first of my restaurants to undergo a redevelopment was in Bristol and it was a steep learning curve – the steepest of my career," added Mr Guerin.

“But I learned from the mistakes and took all of the feedback on board, which has made each one after that better and better.

“Staff are always wary of the changes but as soon as they come back to work after being fully trained with the new systems they find it far easier and are able to talk to customers more freely, which they love being able to do."
