PEOPLE living in Semington have welcomed a much needed facelift to the village hall after the second stage of its renovation has been completed.

The committee which manages the village hall in the High Street said they were grateful for a grant from the Melksham Area Board for £1,500 to help towards the costs of completing works on the kitchen, part of the hall's revamp which began in 2014.

Gerald Taylor, 66, of Pound Close, Semington, chairman of the village hall team, said: “The kitchen itself cost £13,000, it was first put in in 1964 so we needed to revamp it. The works were completed at the end of last year so it was ready for use in 2017.

"It has been desperately needed for a while so it is good to have it sorted.

“The works weren’t straightforward, it wast just a matter of swapping out the equipment, it involved moving the walls.

"he rest of the money that was raised for the project was from the hall’s bookings, and we already have taken a lot of bookings for this year. The village hall is an important part of the community in Semington,” added Mr Taylor.

The work to the kitchen follows the renovation of the toilets in the village hall in 2014. The modernised kitchen now boasts a new built-in oven, improved storage space, a microwave and a dishwasher, ensuring the hall is ready to host a variety of functions.
