Police are appealing for information after a couple tried to steal a dog near Melksham.
A woman aged in her 20s was walking her cocker spaniel dog in the field at the top of Littleworth Lane, Whitley, when she became aware of a man and a woman walking an Akita or German shepherd-type dog on a short chain lead.
The pair attempted to steal the woman’s dog by putting a slip lead on it.
The owner managed to remove it straight away and the pair ran off towards their vehicle and left the scene.
Police say the vehicle is described as a dirty bright blue Megane.
The man is described as white, short, wearing grey cargo trousers and he spoke with an Irish accent. The woman is described as having red hair.
PCSO Janet Gould said: “I’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who may have information to help identify this pair. Please call 101.
“I’d also like to urge dog walkers to be vigilant when out and about. Please report any suspicious behaviour immediately.”
