A MOTHER and son from Melksham are among four people who got a lovely surprise just before Christmas when they realised they’d all won £30,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery thanks to their street address.

Mother-of-seven Nikki Lock, 49, and her son Aaron Philpott, 31, didn’t know that they both play People’s Postcode Lottery until they won the cash prize.

Their postcode SN12 7AW was drawn as a winner of the Street Prize on Sunday, November 19.

There were a total of four winners on Littlejohn Avenue in Melksham, including print worker Andrew Watts and another winner, who wishes to remain anonymous.

Aaron’s absolutely thrilled for his mum, whose children range in age from 32 to 14.

He said: “She has never won anything before, and with seven kids, she’s never been able to buy herself the best of things. So I’m really happy for her and now it’s time for her to treat herself.”

The lorry driver can’t wait to spoil his partner and children this Christmas.

"We are going to give the kids an amazing time this year," he said.

“Winning this money also means we don’t need to save up for a holiday next year, we can just book it and go.”

Winning has been an overwhelming experience for Nikki, who works in a local factory.

She said: “I wasn’t expecting to win this much. It was really nice for me and my son to win together. We’re not usually this lucky!

“I’m going to buy a new car, I’m 100 per cent sure of that. I really need a reliable car for getting the kids to school and then getting to work every day.”

Andrew Watts is another big winner. The 53-year-old, who works in a local printing factory, moved home to another address in Melksham over a year ago but continued to play the lottery with his old postcode.

He said: “I just decided at the time to stick with my original postcode and I’m glad I did. I’ve had a few £10 wins, but this is the most money I’ve ever won.

“I’m going to invest most of it, but I’ve never been on a really big holiday before so I’m going to go somewhere hot like the Caribbean.”

A fourth winner on the street was unavailable to receive their cheque from People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson, but the cash prize will be paid directly into their bank account.

Danyl said: “I just love the fact that families can win together and neighbours can win together. That’s what is so amazing about People’s Postcode Lottery.

“Congratulations to all the winners in Melksham! You too could be in with a chance of winning if you sign up to play with your postcode and with over £100 million in prizes this year, why not play now?”

More than £246 million to date has been raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery for over 3,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

A local cause near Melksham that has received support from players is Devizes in Bloom, which was awarded £1,000 this year to fund new equipment for volunteers cleaning up the community.
