A MELKSHAM motor dealership has proved that car salesmen really do have a heart.

Nortree Motors has bought a restored 1989 Ford Escort XR3i with only 22,000 miles on the clock and the money paid for the car has been donated to a charity.

Edward and Dan Phillips, owners of the Beanacre Road company, bid for the red classic car at the NEC Classic Motor Show’s Silverstone auctions.

The car was being sold with a guide price of £21,000 and is now sitting in the company’s car showroom waiting for its next owner to come along and buy it.

Dan said: “We are very proud to have bought this 1980s throwback. All we need now are the shellsuits!”

The money they paid has been given to a charity chosen by the Wheeler Dealers guru Mike Brewer. He selected the ‘Marie Crawford Boyd Foundation’ as his recipient for the sale proceeds.

The Marie Crawford Boyd Foundation has been set up to help those who suffer from the terminal illness Wegener’s Vasculitis and fund research into treatment.
