A FIVE-a side football team from Melksham have raised more than £526 from a bag-packing fundraiser at the Asda supermarket.

The seven boys will put the funds towards the £4,500 cost of taking part in the Isle of Wight junior football tournament at Easter.

The boys all play for Melksham Town Hurricanes U8s soccer team and are still seeking sponsorship to enable them to take part, after spending Saturday loading carrier bags for shoppers.

One of the mums, Sophie Bush, who has helped to organise their trip, said: “We are very pleased with the amount we raised on Saturday and would like to thank the people of Melksham for their generosity.”

Part of the Melksham Town FC youth section at the Oakfield Stadium, the Hurricanes U8s team will take part in the tournament over the Easter holidays.

Last year, 97 teams took part in the UK’s longest-running junior soccer festival, now in its 37th year, in Newport.
